San Javier Airport
San Javier currently serves as the primary airport for the Murcia and Cota Calida regions.
The small airport of San Javier, which is located 45 km outside of Murcia City along the Mar Menor lake, is used by a variety of English and German airlines. No direct bus connections and train stations exist from the airport of San Javier and the only way to travel from Murcia airport are the taxi or Murcia car hire.
Because of the limitations of San Javier, a private company decided to put up a new airport in Corvera, Murcia. The inland town of Corvera is located on the southern slopes of Sierra de Carrascoy mountains and is only 20 minutes away from the city of Murcia. However, Corvera airport, which is due to open in 2010, will be just a 10-minute drive away.
Corvera Airport is intended to serve a comprehensive range of UK and European low-cost airlines. The town is rapidly expanding with new facilities and properties being developed, some of which are prestigious golf courses and country clubs. Corvera has fantastic almond and melon groves as well as spectacular landscapes. Plus, the renowned La Murta Observatory is just nearby. With the region's excellent climate and clear skies, it is predicted that more and more people would come in the near future; which is why the new airport opening in 2010 is a perfect travelling option for outsiders who would like to visit.
