Fuente Alamo is about 35 kms from Murcia, the regional capital of the region in southeastern Spain. It is well-connected to the major cities. Its year-round lovely climate, as well as its nearness to the coast and beautiful scenery, make it perfect for rural tourism. The town itself is large where parts of it are open plains while the others are hillier with the ranges of Agarrobo, Pinilla, Los Gomez, Los Victorias, Cabezos de Tallante and the Carrascoy National Park, whose highest peak is La Peņa del Aguila.
Settlers in the prehistoric times as well as Roman times were attracted to this town but it was only in the 16th century that it was properly recognized. They celebrate special holidays, such as Christmases and Easters, with fiestas or festivals. However, the main fiesta of the year takes place every August 28th to commemorate St. Augustine, the town's patron saint. These are some of the most popular festivals that tourists love to see. The locals actively take part in the preparations and celebrations where many are members of associations or peņas. They eagerly welcome outsiders to join them in all the festivities.
Although there are still some pine forests in the Carrascoy National Park, the town's main vegetation is scrub and bush. Because of this, the area is said to be ideal for hill walking, mountain biking and horse riding. It has become one of the best stopping places for people whose interests lie in rural tourism, village attractions, country mansions and various traditional windmills. The area is also home to Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort.
