Aguilas
Located on the Costa Calida in southeastern Spain, the town of Aguilas is a pleasant port town. It has made the most of the extensive coastline, which is one of its main attractions, where seafaring has been combined with a wide selection of tourist activities. Aguilas, an old Roman fishing port, began its operations in 1785 during the Enlightenment period. It was a port of exit for the well-acknowledged produce of Murcia's fertile fields. Then in the 19th century, it is said to have become a major mining enclave where lead and silver from mines nearby was brought into ships for export.
The seafaring town of Aguilas has an extensive coastline of up to 34 kilometres. This admirable stretch is said to be one of the main tourist destinations in the Murcia region, coupled with the area's average temperature. There are solitary caves and beaches with crystal-clear water, urban beaches and scuba diving areas found in this town.
A few other famous tourist spots are the Plaza de Espaņa's lovely gardens of rubber plants, the City Hall built in the 19th century, and the San Jose parish church where the image of their patron saint is kept. At the upper part of town is the castle-fortress of San Juan de Aguilas built specifically as a defence in the year 1579. Also well-known places of interest are the Food Market and the railway monument.
