Information on the Area:
Pego is the hidden gem of the Spain's Costa Blanca, sandwiched between orange groves, marshes and nine mountain ranges. Just a short hop from the hustle and bustle of Denia and yet it feels like another world.
Between Oliva’s coastline and Pego town lays the Marjal, a natural park which is home to numerous endangered species, even ospreys and eagles can be seen circling the airspace above. From June to August there is a free boat trip across the Marjal - or you can go on foot or by bicycle. You can enjoy an immense tranquility and feel totally at one with nature whilst exploring the green valleys and mountains via the network of walkers’ routes to be found in the area. Pego has traditionally been associated with growing rice, though its proximity to Valencia has encouraged the growing of citrus fruits to the detriment of rice. Pego, with its attractive town houses, offers everything from traditional restaurants and bars to local shops. No visit is complete without seeing the Ambra castle, with its spectacular view of the town, the orange groves and the rice fields. Pego's most popular monument is the Church of the Assumption with its breathtaking architecture of the 17th century and a bell tower topped with small canons
Denia is a delightful cosmopolitan town set on Spain's northern Costa Blanca. This typically Spanish town is rich in history and culture, and is also a thriving commercial centre. The town of Denia is set between Gandia and Javea, 85 km north east of Alicante, and lies at the foot of the Montgo mountain. Denia's harbor is one of the most important in this part of the Costa Blanca, with ferry connections to the Spanish islands of Ibiza, Mallorca and elsewhere. This and the huge fishing fleet have made Denia a very prosperous town over the past years.
Denia boasts modern supermarkets, an extraordinary number of banks, top quality shops, tax consultants, lawyers, doctors, dentists, the area's biggest hospitals and the courts of justice. Shopping in Denia is a sheer delight. Besides offering all the high street essentials, there are some top-of-the-range clothes shops with designer wear for both men and women and beautiful gift shops specializing in the unusual and exquisite.
The summer temperatures reach 40° C. The beaches are some of the best in Spain, and stretch for 20 Kms north and south of Denia. They consistently win the European Blue Flag for safety and cleanliness. All the main beaches have the benefits of sunshades and beds to hire and a generous sprinkling of beach "chiringuitos" - beach bars popular in Spain, selling alcoholic and soft drinks, ice creams and snacks. There are plenty of beach-based activities both on and off the water, including climbing frames, volleyball nets and huge expanses of open beach set well back from the sea - ideal for football and other team sports. There are sailboats, dinghies and pedaloes for hire and the rocks at Les Rotes are perfect for fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving.
Javea on the Spanish Costa Blanca is set between Denia and Moraira, about 80 kms north east of Alicante on Spain's Mediterranean coast. Javea, often called the Jewel of Spain's Costa Blanca, is spread out over a large area. There are small beaches in delightful coves, cultural and historical sites and monuments, wonderful walks and two headland lighthouses with breath taking views. The town of Javea is divided into three distinct localities, all quite different to one another. The old town - the original Javea - set back from the coast and is the place to visit to discover Spanish history and culture. Here you'll find charming, narrow streets with shopkeepers speaking the local language "Valenciano". Javea's old town has a truly Spanish feel. The port is still a working fishing port and a delightful place to visit with its mixture of fishing vessels, luxury yachts and seafront bars and cafes. The third area is the Arenal beach - one of the most beautiful on the Costa Blanca, a crescent-shaped, sandy beach with a fine promenade lined with bars, cafes, restaurants, gift shops and ice-cream parlours.
