Jerez de la Frontera
Jerez de la Frontera, or Jerez, is a dynamic city northeast of Cadiz, that takes pride in the high quality of life it offers its inhabitants.
Historically, it was the frontier between the Moorish and Christian realms from the 13th to 15th centuries, but is most famous for its sweet fortified wines made from local grapes, which the British pronounced as "sherry". Visitors to Jerez usually head for a tour of the sherry houses or bodegas, which are often beautiful buildings in attractive gardens.
Jerez is also renowned for its fine, sleek horses and is home to the Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art. A city of well-heeled and beautiful people, Jerez is also a hotspot for brilliant singers and dancers of flamenco, with its Centro Andaluz de Flamenco (Andalucian Flamenco Center).
