Huercal Overa
One of the many beautiful towns of Almeria, Huercal Overa town is situated between two branches of the Almanzora River.
The town has great restaurants, a modern hospital, swimming pools, leisure centres, and luxury hotels. On Monday mornings, Huercal Overa is taken over by street markets. Popular religious destinations are the Parish Church de Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion(1505), Chapel of Jesus Nazareno(1749),and the Parish Church de Nuestra Señora de la Virgen(1748). It is in the Chapel of Jesus Nazareno where the statue of Jesus Nazareno carved by Francisco Salzillo can be found.
Every Easter week, Huercal Overa’s procession where statues are carried, has become a popular attraction. It is held to celebrate the Passion of the Christ and the town was even declared as a ‘National Tourist Destination.
The town is also covered in rich greens and pine plantations. The forest of Huercal Overa abounds in almond, citrus, and olive trees. Other interesting spots and infrastructure in Huercal Overa include the Via Crucis that leads to Hermitage del Calvario, the old Posito(Granary), and an old bell tower from the Middle Ages.
The Andalusia and Ballabona restaurants are two of the most famous dining options in town. Only sumptuous home-made food is served by these restaurants, making them regular tourist destinations.
