Valencia
Valencia is one of the largest and liveliest cities in Spain. Located on the Mediterranean coast, the beaches are very accessible right in the very heart of the city. The summer months prove to be the busiest and craziest in Valencia. Tourists flock to the city, making it one of the most dynamic cities in Spain. Of course, it is also known as the city where "El Cid," Spain's national hero, fought against the Moors. Up to this day, popular festivals in the city and many villages around still celebrate this period of historic triumph.
The beaches are the most visited areas in Valencia, with a variety of activities waiting to be experienced. Golf, diving, cycling, tennis and other sports are popular choices in this vibrant city. A festive night life is also an ever-present part of the Valencia culture.
A key part of Valencia culture is paella. Considered as one of Spain’s most famous culinary delights, the Paella Valenciana has crossed borders and reached far regions of the world. There are many variations of this recipe, and even experts cannot determine which one is the original Paella. However, the most popular is what the locals call Paella Marinera—rice with saffron, seafood and vegetables. The Paella, which Valencianos use to call Valenciana, is altogether different because it consists of chicken and snails.
