Orihuela
Orihuela is the capital of La Vega Baja, also known as the low fertile lowlands. It is one of the largest regions in the province of Alicante, which pertains to the Valencian Community and is 30 kilometres from Elche.
Orihulea also has sixteen kilometres of coastline, which lie about 20 kilometres from the main city. All the beaches have been awarded the blue flag, a distinction given by a government organization to well-kept beaches. There are also plenty of options for water sports in the nautical clubs.
This town boasts one of the largest cultural heritages in the area of Costa Blanca. It is rich in monuments including St. Dominic's Church, The Holy Cathedral Church, featuring a painting by Velazquez and the Church of Santiago that was originally a mosque. There are especially two monuments to see: The Cathedral and the Palace of Rubalcalva.
The Cathedral was built on grounds where a mosque had once been in the twelfth century and possesses a Gothic style. The Palace of Rubalcava, where the tourist office is located, is a must-see for those curious about the history of Orihuela. Up until now, Orihuela has taken great pride in maintaining all its monuments, many of which have been recognised as national monuments.
