Catral
The serene town of Catral, located southwest of Alicante in Costa Blanca South, thrives primarily in its rich agricultural resources. There is no mistaking the warmth of such a picturesque area, with its breathtaking greenery. The mild climate in the area makes farming the main industry in the province. Nevertheless, footwear is also an important product manufactured in the region. Such laid back industries reflect the easygoing lifestyle Catral locals lead. For the nostalgic traveller, this city is a comfortable haven of tradition sprinkled with inevitable indications of modernity and progress.
The name Catral comes from the Moorish 'Al-Quatrullat' and the Moorish influence is reflected in much of the architecture in the property, lending the town an old-fashioned vibe. For the backpacker, a must-see destination is the Hondo Reservoir, one of the most popular attractions in the area. It is a preserved natural park, which many people have embarked on as a rural trail.
Generally thought of as a quiet town, there is more to Catral than meets the eye. The city boasts high quality banks, lively taverns, efficient medical centres, a public library accessible to everyone, and a bustling sports centre. Truly, it promises the traveller a mélange of activities to enjoy.
