Calpe
Romance and inspiration are the signatures of Calpe, a village located in between Altea to the south and Javea to the north. With an estimated 13,000 inhabitants, Calpe has the mildest weather around the Costa Blanca, perfect for fishing and other water sports. Reaching Calpe is a treat in itself because traversing the national road allows you to enjoy the view of the coastline and the bays.
Calpe is known for its rock called Penon De Ifach, a massive rock formation that has been attracting a vast number of tourists and sightseers. The fishing and yacht harbour, which are famous for their steady wind conditions, make for a suitable tourist destination. Calpe's two main beaches, the Cantal Roig and the Playa Arenal, are widely known for their fine sand.
Aside from beaches, Calpe’s other must-visit destinations include the churches Iglesia Antigua and the church of Señora de las Nievas both located in the centre of Calpe. Built in the 15th century, the old churches have been reconditioned many times over the past centuries to mend the damage done by pirates who have attacked the city many times before. Calpe also has an archaeological museum, which showcases artifacts found from the 4th until the 8th century. Ruins and remnants lend a nostalgic vibe to the overall feel of the city’s centre.
