Alicante North
Alicante's exceptional location between the mountains and the sea gives the city its signature charm. The smell of saltwater pervades the entire city, evoking a refreshing feel of calmness. It is often difficult to preserve culture and tradition with the advent of technology. Alicante, on the other hand, has managed to combine both advancement and tradition. Historical landmarks and monuments provide travellers with a glimpse of Alicante’s history, which was heavily influenced by Moorish culture.
Gastronomy in Alicante is closely linked to the Mediterranean, with the additional importance of rice in combination with fish. This is the basis of Alicante's cuisine. Dishes are usually savoury, especially the rice-based ones. Some of these rice dishes are: a la alicantina, using chicken and rice as basic ingredients, accompanied by shellfish and seasoned with ñora, a touch of dried red pepper.
Aside from its beaches and exquisite cuisine, Alicante is also a university city. Various faculties and a series of technical colleges can be found here. In summer, foreign students can take classes. The city has a wide range of cultural activities taking place in various centres around town, always taking art and culture at a higher level.
Today, Alicante is the second largest city in the Land of Valencia with a central location on the Costa Blanca, and now deriving much of its income from the tourist industry.
