Tenerife
Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, with an area of more than 2,000 sqm, and excellent weather year-round. The natural landscape of the island offers a gamut of scenery and terrain, from large wooded mountains to varied vegetation, including bananas, tomatoes, and potatoes.
Every year, the island gears up for its world-famous Carnival at Santa Cruz, celebrated just the week before Ash Wednesday. Months of preparation go into making sure that it puts together the largest, loudest, and most dazzling festival of parades and street parties with a unique cross-dressing theme. The carnival ends with the Entierro de la Sardina or the Burial of the Sardine, where a life-sized sardine papier-mâché is burned amidst a cheering crowd. Some of the most popular destinations in Tenerife include Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos in the south and Puerto de la Cruz in the north. The island is also famous for its very own volcano, Mount Teide.
